The Devotion of a Poodle: Marcel

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Marcel was not always Don & Linda’s dog. He actually used to belong to one of their kids! But every time Don came over, Marcel was at his side. Marcel was sad when Don left, and overjoyed when he returned – to the point that it just made sense for Don & Linda to bring him home with them. And now Don has a permanent shadow! Marcel protects him, loves him, and truly wants nothing more than to be with him all the time.

You hear about soulmates, and maybe you’re one of the lucky people to have found one. Some people believe in them, and others don’t. Watching Marcel & Don interact made me think about that term, though, and how maybe it doesn’t always have to apply to romantic partners. And that it could even surpass species. I haven’t known them very long, but I’m pretty sure Marcel has found his human counterpart – and best friend – in Don. It’s a devotion and a closeness that I don’t see too often. And even if I wasn’t a photographer, I’d describe it as beautiful.

Here are a few photos (an extra-big Sneak Peek!) from our session, during which we visited my studio, the park and the beach – because the sweet little guy loves the beach! I’m pretty sure we tuckered him out :)  Enjoy!

“Hi, I’m Marcel, and I’m a serious contender for cutest poodle ever. I’d like to thank my ears.”

Thanks for a wonderful and heart-warming session, Don & Linda! I truly enjoyed it so much.

Beach Session: Mercedes the Rhodesian Ridgeback and Jaguar the Greyhound

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Sometimes I come across a spectacularly well-named dog, and I just love it when the name I keep calling during their session (usually with little effect, haha) is funny or has a great meaning behind it. This session may have been my all-time favorite: I had the privilege of photographing Mercedes and Jaguar! Both dogs are six years old: Jaguar is a retired greyhound and Mercedes is a Rhodesian ridgeback.

I was extra-excited for this session for another reason: my dog Bailey is part Rhodesian ridgeback (we think!). So it was fascinating to see the purebred version of my mutt, and honestly, I think they have a lot in common personality-wise! They’re both a bit stubborn and don’t have that eager-to-please attitude of, say, a golden retriever. But my gosh, when they run around free of a leash, I’ve hardly seen a dog smile bigger. Mercedes had a huge grin on her face! For now, enjoy these pictures while I keep working on the rest…

Thanks for a great afternoon at the beach, Cheryl!

Jax, Pete & Duncan ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

These three delightful Yorkie and Silky terrier boys came to visit me in Pensacola all the way from Brewton, Alabama with their parents this weekend! And while I was nervous about telling them all apart, once I met them, I knew it wouldn’t be hard. Let me introduce you!

We can start with the middle brother – just because I feel like mixing it up. This is Pete, who’s 5 years old and a ball of energy!

This is Duncan, the newest addition to the family: he’s only 7 months old, weighs 4 pounds, and is pretty much scared of everything.

Last but not least, Jax, the sage (and only slightly ornery) old man at 13.

After relaxing at the park, we went somewhere a little more scenic…

Some of us jumped in the water. No names mentioned.

 I probably yammered their parents’ ears off by going on about the light at that time of day… well, this is why!

But where I think these boys really shined was the studio. Just look at that pose by the 7-month-old!

If this photo had a sound effect, it would be “whoosh”

Even old man Jax brought out his playful side!

What a beautiful trio.

Bye bye boys!

Something tells me this gallery is going to be, well, not Yorkie-sized, but Great Dane-sized! But you’ll have to wait until the new year to see!

One More of Kai ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Friday, September 16th, 2011

I was just working through a few more images from my session with Kai, and found this one.

To tell you the truth, I change opinions on what’s my “favorite photo” every day. But I think this one might stay at the top of the list for a little longer than usual.

Sneak Peek: Peanut ~ {Pensacola Pet Photography by Allison Shamrell}

Monday, September 12th, 2011

For those of you who are unfamiliar with my packages, let me give you a quick run-down.

~  The Beagle Package is one hour long

~  The Dalmatian Package is three hours long

~  The Great Dane Package is all day, approximately eight hours long

My most popular session is the Dalmatian, and it’s kind of what I’m known for, because it offers the opportunity to capture a wide variety of locations, not to mention much more time than the Beagle. And I’ll be completely honest: I don’t get to do a Great Dane quite often. But when the right client comes along, who’s willing to spend the day with me and get the most incredible “day in the life”-type of experience, it’s nothing short of magic.

And that’s exactly what happened on Friday! I had the pleasure of spending the day with Peanut, an adorable mini Aussie, and her mom Karyn. We traveled all over Pensacola, and I just don’t think a normal Sneak Peek is enough for this session. So take a minute and see how we spent our Friday together!

First, in the early morning hours when the sun was still gently filtering through the trees, we went to the park near Peanut’s house.

Running around in the grass was fun, but one of Peanut’s favorite things is to climb up on the playground!

That was a little tiring, though, so we stopped for a few beignets at Seville Quarter!

Don’t worry, we didn’t let her eat a whole beignet… but you might notice a few extra white spots on her face!

We had a bit more fun around downtown Pensacola…

And then headed to the studio!

But soon enough, someone got very tired from her exciting morning… look at that sad face!
We didn’t want to subject her to any more pain in the studio, so we took a nap break at home.

Once the nap was done, we headed next door to see if Peanut’s best friend Cooper was home!

And after that, we drove through Pensacola…

And didn’t stop until we made it to the beach!

That’s all I can show you for now (biggest Sneak Peek ever!) but I promise you’ll be seeing much more of Peanut.
Thanks, Karyn, for a fabulous day with your incredibly special little dog. Now… to edit the MOUNTAIN of her images! :)
