San Diego Chihuahuas Mimi & Roxie! (Photos)

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

I recently had the pleasure of meeting two dogs with completely different personalities! These San Diego chihuahuas Mimi & Roxie are both adorable, and both very much loved by their parents, but I’m pretty sure that’s where the similarities end! Roxie is a total firecracker: energetic, spunky, and happy to bark at any passing person or dog! She makes her opinions heard, and she knows exactly what she wants. Basically, she’s the boss! Whereas her sister Roxie, an older chihuahua mix, couldn’t be more laid-back. She’s relaxed, content, and simply happy to be with her family. There’s not much that she feels the need to bark at; just keep the treats coming and she’s a happy camper, haha! So it was a fun challenge to balance each dog’s personalities during their photo session, and I have to admit, I think the results are absolutely adorable! :)  We visited Coronado Ferry Landing and enjoyed relaxing in the green grass and pretty flowers… and Mimi enjoyed barking at all the other dogs too! :)

This is Mimi – always ready to go! I can just see the mischievous glint in her eyes…

And this is Roxie! (I figured I’d better share an action photo, so you don’t think she’s a lazy dog, haha! She has a relaxed and calm demeanor, but she can RUN, too! Especially if you’ve got chicken!)

Oh my goodness. Pint-sized pups, with so much personality!

Thanks, Isabella & Cassandra, for an amazing afternoon! I’m so glad we braved the cloudy skies for these photos! :)  Talk to you soon!

Best of 2015 – San Diego Pet Photography

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Are you ready for this? I cannot WAIT to share these images with you!  :)  :)

2015 was an incredible year for my business: I met incredible people, fantastic dogs, and had a BLAST doing what I absolutely love to do! I’ll always be able to look back on 2015 with a big smile on my face, because although it had its ups and downs (just like any year), I have to admit that there were way more “ups” and happy times than anything else. So of course I couldn’t properly say goodbye to one of the most amazing years of my life without a “Best of” blog post – because I want to share a tiny fraction of how GREAT this year was with you! So I really feel like this blog post contains a piece of my heart… not to wax poetic, but the people and dogs in these photos really do mean the world to me, and I’ll always be grateful that we crossed paths in 2015. Did all these sessions go 100% smoothly? Nope! (Hello rain delays!) Did all these dogs really love being in front of the camera? Definitely not! (Some adored being the center of attention, and some definitely took some warming up!) But I think we still ended up with spectacular results from each & every session, and to me, that’s the most important thing, because then my clients can walk away happy. And I think they all did! :)

So here are all the pets I photographed in full-length photo sessions in 2015. I picked out my 3 favorite images from each session – not the easiest thing to do!! – and for the sake of simplicity, I refrained from sharing the details of each pet’s story here, but you can always search the blog for details on any pet if you’re curious.

Whew! What a year! :)

Beatrice the Min Pin and Bruno the Chihuahua, in Balboa Park

Friday, March 13th, 2015

I’m so excited to share a few photos with you from my Balboa Park photo session with Beatrice & Bruno, the miniature pinscher & chihuahua! Our session had a rather eventful beginning, to be honest with you – Beatrice the 5-year-old min pin decided that she wanted nothing to do with the studio. So instead of forcing it, we decided to let her be the boss, and we packed up and headed for Balboa Park! (I tell all my clients that their dogs will basically be in charge of how the session goes – and this time, Beatrice put my promise to the test, haha!) We’d much rather have a happy dog than a nervous & stressed one, and changing locations was a simple fix – both dogs were immediately much more comfortable in the wide open spaces of Balboa Park!

So we had a wonderful time walking around several different areas of Balboa Park, finding all the best scenery to pose with, watching the birds fly overhead, monitoring the ducks in the lily pond (and the koi fish! a new discovery!), and I just love the images that we never would have created otherwise! Beatrice had fun playing with the tennis balls I brought (successfully de-squeaking one of them), and Bruno enjoyed exercising a bit of newfound confidence by barking at every dog that passed by… so, all in all, it was definitely a fun day! :)

This is Beatrice! Isn’t she gorgeous?

I just love her bright eyes & pretty coloring… add in all the natural colors of Balboa Park, and I just can’t get enough!

Heather, thank you so much for being flexible on the “plan” for our photo session! I can’t wait to get together with you again soon!

Have you Ever Seen a Blue Chihuahua?

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Photographing rare breeds of dogs is so much fun for me – I love trying new things, and in a way, working with an uncommon breed of dog is a whole new experience. I get to learn their temperament, tendencies, and quirks that are totally unique to that breed. So while this session wasn’t with a new breed, per se, it was definitely a rare sub-category of that breed! You may have heard of blue Weimaraners or blue heelers; I am proud to introduce you to Crescent, a blue chihuahua!

Isn’t she adorable? She’s built like any other chihuahua, but her fur is completely unique!

blue chihuahua

For the confused: no, she isn’t actually bright blue. If you’re looking for really blue dogs, this will be your best bet.

And let’s not forget Crescent’s sister, Crickett! (She’s definitely the outgoing one between them!)

spaniel mix

I love working with dogs that have completely different personalities. Crickett, in a totally puppy-like way, was running around the park, chasing sticks, sniffing & exploring everywhere. Crescent, on the other hand, was rarely found more than five feet from her mom. Each dog was her own challenge – for Crescent, getting photos with only her in the frame and not mom too; and Crickett, gaining her attention & focus for more than two seconds at a time!

Aren’t they an adorable pair?

Thanks for a lovely afternoon in the park, you two! See you soon!  :)

Ft. Walton Beach Min Pin & Chihuahua Photography: Frankie, Lilli & Emmie

Monday, February 11th, 2013

This was my first session with out-of-town visitors in 2013! I love the excitement of doing sessions with people visiting for only a brief time; either they come to town primarily for their session or are fitting it in with all their other vacation plans, and either way, it’s a bit of a whirlwind! But even though so much of what I do revolves around the pets & owners living nearby (visiting them before the session to meet their dogs, showing clients their photos in person, etc.) I’m more than happy to make sure my out-of-town clients still get the great experience that all my clients are accustomed to. And this Saturday was no exception! My clients actually used to live in Ft. Walton Beach, so we headed to a couple of pretty places that were special to them. I’m so excited about this session – I have a feeling their gallery is going to be huge! For now, here are just a few photos of their adorable little pack.

This is Emmie, a chihuahua-min pin mix. She’s the baby of the family – literally!

A miniature pinscher-chihuahua mix looks up at the camera from her owner's arms,

… and here are Emmie’s parents! Frankie is the chihuahua on the left and Lilli is the min pin on the right. I love how Emmie looks like mom, but got just a bit of dad’s soft peachy coloring!

A chihuahua and a miniature pinscher dog look up at the camera from being in their owner's arms.

Here are all three pups – in a rare moment when no one was running/jumping/exploring! :)

A miniature pinscher, a chihuahua, and their baby mix sit on a beach boardwalk.

Kassandra & Lyle, thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon! I’ll be in touch soon with your gallery info!
